Fortunately in Nora's case, Nick's only 'deep dark secret' is mentioning that one of his favourite actors is Charles Laughton.
In the case of actress Elsa Lanchester, Charles Laughton's wife, it was discovering that her husband was a homosexual.
Despite this, the couple enjoyed a lifelong marriage and for film buffs - well we have the benefits of enjoying Laughton's extensive film career with such outstanding titles as The Sign Of The Cross (when this photograph was taken), The Barretts of Wimpole Street, The Private Life of Henry VIII, Mutiny on the Bounty (two of Nicky's favourite films), Jamaica Inn - and that's before we even leave the 1930s.
Nora's two favourite Laughton film are ones in which he starred with his wife - The Big Clock and Witness For the Prosecution.
While an uncoventional couple, Laughton and Lanchester were pure Hollywood - the contradiction perhaps best explained by Laughton himself:
"Hollywood is a goofy place. But I like it. It's the perfect mummers' home. If one weren't a little mad one wouldn't be there."*Another Laughton quotable quote, prompting the thought that today's actors more often than not just give you a third generation photocopy...
