Saints Preserve Us

One supposed in the days of slower transportation and short shelf life, touting that something had perservatives was an advantage - but sulphur dioxide? That sounds a bit nasty doesn't it?

In those days no one was allegic to peanuts and allergies to milk were virutally unheard of, so 1 grain of sulphur dioxide to the pint would barely register.

And it is the same today, sulphur dioxide is one of the persevatives commonly used in soft drinks.

But woebetide anyone who overlooks mentioning the addition of such an ingredient.
