It was the symbol of the global village, as ubiquitous as Coca-Cola. It was Pan Am.
It was the symbol of the future, it's distinct stylised blue globe featuring in both 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner.
Sadly, it never made the future, having finally collapsed in 1991 following set backs after the murderous Pan Am 103 bombing over the tiny Scottish town of Lockerbie.
But here in this advertisement from the October 1973 edition of Modern Motor, the future seemed assured for Pan Am -even wrapped in a bow.
