30s retailing sweetheart Norma Knight spruiking the wonders of Castille Knight soap was quick to get into patriotic duty in the March 30 1940 edition of Picture Post magazine.
The Lever and Kitchen brand, established in 1912 and arrived in the UK in 1919 is still made today.
The advertisement is a great example of the patriotic fervor that industry embraced during World War Two.
It makes one wonder about the turn around time for the art work in these serialised advertisements.
In this installment, Norma heads to France to cheer up the troops.
She is less than 6 weeks away from Nazi occupation of France, two weeks later the evacuation of Dunkirk would begin.
This advertisement ends with the promise: Norma has some fun in Paris! Read next installment.
Somehow one thinks that reality is more strange (and interesting) than fiction.
